Borderside 23-25 Oct
A wet weekend was forecast and the numbers proved the ralliers were put off.   We had 4 units, two of which were motorhomes, and one of which we had to pull on site and then pull them off on Sunday morning.   Saturday was not as bad as expected but the rain did come through the night, hence the main thing on everyones mind was 'lets go home' on Sunday morning.   Our two motorhomes were celebrating a ruby wedding anniversary and were able to walk to and from the Masons Arms for their celebratory meal, which considering the weather was an achievement.

Spital THS  8th Sept

Due to the amount of rainfall in August the Stewards Diana Kathleen & George were in touch with Mark the Farmer of Spital Farm two weeks before the THS as the field was very very wet, the decision to cancel the THS was left until Friday 4th September with the hope that it would stop raining, it did not. We apologise to all the members who turned up to find we had had to cancelled the THS.(about 100 of you judging by the phone calls Diana received). We are hoping the weather next year will be much better and we can have a good THS, we don`t want to have to cancel for a third time.See you all in 2010 7th /19th September.  Diana Kathleen & George.

Baycliffe 18th Aug -1st Sept
At Baycliffe we had a good turn out of visitors from as far afield as Isle of Wight.  Despite plenty of rain and some sun all 60 units enjoyed the view across the Morecambe Bay, Blackpool Tower was visible every day.  The field coped extremely well with the rain and all units moved off without assistance.  Come and visit us here again next year for an extended August Bank Holiday.  Muriel and Robin

Coniston 13th -18th August

John Ruskin School Coniston - 41 units attended – those arriving on Thursday were greeted with a hot, sunny day – and the views looking to Coniston village and the cottages and fells surrounding the Old Man were just Magical.  Friday and Saturday we were greeted with rain like stair rods! but the waterproofs came out together with the boots and the boats and and off they went our sturdy campers.
25 boys girls mums and dads and the ‘oldies’ were able to enjoy the open-air heated swimming pool.  The chance to camp close to the village and, of course, the shops proved to be an added bonus When the sun shone and it did, the lake proved a big attraction- not forgetting the goodies in the café there.  There was the opportunity to use the school tennis courts.
A great Meet and our coffee morning raised a substantial sum for our charity Ambleside Mountain Rescue.  Thank you one and all for your generosity.
A final word – Thanks to Eileen and Frank for their assistance.
See you all again next year    Norma and Ron

Austwick  6th-11th August

Crooklands 10th-12th July

We were lucky with the weather with lovely sunshine and only very heavy rain during Saturday Night.  some people enjoyed a visit to the Lakeland Rose Show nearby and free trips on a canal boat.  Some ventured out in a canoe.  We had a very pleasant Sausage and Mash with beans supper followed by rice pudding and fruit, thank you to all the helpers it does not take long to peel 30 lb of potatoes when you make it into a social occasion!. Two campers were unfortunately taken ill with Jean being taken to Lancaster by Ambulance  and Moira to Kendal by car.  We wish them both a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing them out again soon.
The lost Vulture from the Rose Show luckily did not visit us.

Kendal 28th June  10th July
Our recent holiday meet at Spital farm Kendal, was a great success. The first week’s weather was, at times, unbearably hot. During the weekend we did have some showers & as the temperature dropped a little, more rain appeared. But compared to other parts of the country we did very well.
A great time was had by all with peak demand on Friday night with 70 units on site. Many of our members from all parts of British Isles enjoyed bus trips all over The Lakes & North Lancashire. Another attraction was Morrison’s supermarket sell off time just before closing.
Many of our en route visitors extended their stay as they found lots to do in the area.
If you missed this meet Lakeland DA are here again September 8-15 2009 for the torchlight procession
Many thanks Robin & Muriel & John & Jean. Stewards

Ingleton 26th-28th June
We were allocated a new flat field with views overlooking Ingleborough - a footpath down to the village (but its only a 15 minute walk down by road) and excellent facilities.  Robert the farmer could have not done more to ensure we had a perfect weekend - even sunshine on the menu! We must congratulate Alan who (would you believe) cycled UP! the mountain - and back for tea!   The swimming pool beckoned some of our younger members - the older ones settling for cream teas.Norma & Ron

Scorton 17th-22nd June
A big 'thank you' to Margaret and John for their 'super stewarding' - visitors from other DA's were delighted with the warm welcome they received from their fellow-members in 'tother end of country' - (pat on the back to us all) the highlights just have to be the walks in the Trough of Bowland and through NIcky Nook and for those of us who mustered enough energy to climb to the trig point what a view!!  For those whom visited the Scorton Country Fayre and Steam Gathering you chose well - you name it - anything 'vintage' was there a truly great day out and we are told this just get's better every year - wouldn't have minded taking home just one - were not greedy - of the Alpacas or even a customised Volkswagen Camper      Norma & Ron

Castlerigg 12th-17th June

Another successful 5 day meet at Castlerigg with excellent weather.  We had DA members from as far afield as Devon DA ranging up to Durham and Teeside DA,s totalling 14 different sections.  The weather was perfect and it was great to see our usual friendly faces. We had a good coffee morning and were able to bask in the sun and chat with friends.
Thanks   Rita and Gren

Baycliff 4th-8th June
When we arrived Thursday was warm and sunny.  The meet of 24 units had 11 visitors from Teeside to Bedford. On Friday night we had to have our pie, peas and trifle inside because of the rain and cold wind.  The Pie peas and Trifle, supplied by Lilian & Diana was appreciated all the same.  The weather picked up on Saturday & Sunday and a good time was had by all.

This is a wonderful site with extensive views over the bay and the beach less than 5 minutes away.  There are lovely woods, Birkrigg Common with its extensive views across the bay and up to the Lakeland hills, stone circle, Quaker burial ground and the Buddhist temple.  ( excellent cream tea) all within walking distance.  Lilian

Torver THS  22nd-31st May
We were delighted to welcome fellow members from 34 different DA's unfortunately the field entrance proved unusable for Motor Homes because of the mud so they camped on the top field.  However the view from the top field was magical with The Old man of Coniston looking down and keeping watch whilst we had "mixed weather" including that magical rainbow which swept across the fell side whilst above, for those who have enjoyed this supper holiday site, the ostrich still stood guard.  Don't be misled the sun shone brightly later in the week and we enjoyed the highest temperatures of the year to date.
A big thank you to fellow helpers, we couldn't have made this such a success without the dedicated help of David, Edna and Diana.

Ambleside 14th-19th May
It forecast rain and it did rain but despite the wet start most campers enjoyed the beautiful walks & scenery around them and visiting the many tea shops in the area.  When the sun shone the views were stunning.
the clubhouse was opened every night where we caught up with news from our old friends & also made new ones.
On Saturday Night we were entertained by poetry readings from Sandra & folk singing from Trevor and of course, the raffle.  this was followed by music, dancing and a rousing -Auld Lang Syne.
the coffee evening & Bingo on Sunday gave great amusement on a wet night.
On Monday some campers were helped off the field but the sun came out again & by Tuesday all vans were safely off the field.
What a good 5 days camping amongst the most glorious scenery in Britain & how the campers enjoyed the evenings together in the hall.

May 8th -10th  YMCA Lakeside

Had a great a great weekend, everyone joined in at the bonfire on Saturday night.  we had marshmallows popcorn and lots of sweets.  The kids had a great time , as did the adults.  Looking forward to next year.

Dave & Margaret   (stewards)

We did indeed have a great weekend of proper camping.  the weather was never boring, sunshine, wind rain and even hailstones!  There was pleasant walks for those who wanted them, The Lakes Aquarium was visited also.  The lake was a great attraction and many boats and canoes were out and of course the children just loved messing about in the water.  We even had a couple of birthday celebrations.  Oh and a balloon fly past!

Borretts Farm   Sedbergh   30th-5th May

Even without being in the Out & About what a good turn out for what has been  for many years the traditional birthday meet.  The weather was a bit mixed but everyone got out and about each day.  At least it kept fine and the sun shone for the pie & pea evening. it is noted that sticky toffee pudding was favourite! The message has been passed on to pie man about the quality of his pies.  We also managed to attract a new member, Henrietta who insisted in being involved with everything , putting up gazebos, pie and peas and attending many barbecues over the weekend.  I think she enjoys camping as she spent the night on the back of a chair in my awning!   A very enjoyable weekend all round.

40th Anniversary Celebration of Lakeland D.A.

Dear Lilian  …..Please can you put the following out on our web site – many thanks Norma

95 LDA members and friends from many DA’s have just celebrated the 40th Birthday of Lakeland which was a resounding success.  Not only did the sun shine on us but the excellent three-night entertainment and catering left us with many happy memories and very full stomachs!

We were privileged to have as our honoured guests Nev and Kath Ramsbottom, the Immediate Past Chairman and his good lady whom not only joined with us all in the celebrations but very kindly presented the prizes and conducted the auction.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank all the committee and helpers who worked so hard – and no doubt I will be forgiven for, in particular, offering thanks to Frank for his superb entertainment to Jennifer for the superb Birthday Cake to Jill for her tasty hotpot - to Gren. – for we now know what’s kept under a Scotsmans kilt!  and to Jake for his Max Wall lookalike! act.

Finally the canal cruises on the ‘Waterwitch’ and the Saturday entertainment by ‘Secret Plus One’ rounded off a truly special celebration.

Thank you one and all.

January
Once again several of Lakeland visited the Northern Section of the Motor Caravan Meet at the Auction Market at Skipton.    A good time was had by all!
We were made most welcome and enjoyed the fun and games on two evenings – particularly the pork pies from the famous Pork Pie Shop and not forgetting the mushy peas!
On the whole the weather was kind to us and a trip into Skipton on Market Day produced many a bargain.
Following last year’s pattern 9 raffle prizes and a full-house at Bingo brought smiles to our faces. Trevor and your committee – thank you once again – we hope you will have us back next year.
