On the 6th of April 1967 in the Vicarage Rooms Broughton an idea was discussed to form  a Lakeland section within the North Lancs D.,A.

Mr Ken Crawley was appointed chairman and Mrs E. Crawley the secretary and treasurer.  A committee was formed and members agreed to steward meets.  The first meet chosen was at Fell View, Beckermet.  Reports on progress were to be sent to NLDA.

At the AGM in September  many resolutions were passed.  New direction signs to be made, each full member to take turns to steward meets and a winter programme to be set up by the Committee.  Sites were to be sought by the sea for next season.  A Christmas party for the children and a pennant design competition organised.  Raffles were to be run to help DA funds and families were to donate £1 towards the bonfire meet.  A rather ambitious idea was put forward for a section holiday on the continent.  It is not known if this came off.

The Lakeland section of the NLDA continued to thrive.  The Three Shires Stone was chosen as the design for the DA pennant.

In June 1968  a meeting was held  to discuss the section becoming a DA and using the name Lakeland DA.  A regional rep was chosen , boundaries were suggested and meet details were to be sent to the magazine.

The inaugural meeting in which Lakeland section was to become a DA was arranged for 26th/27th April 1969 at Row Ridding, Woodland Parish Rooms nr Grizebeck.  Invitations were sent to NWR, NLDA & CLDA to join us.

Six dozen meat & potato pies were ordered from the baker in Broughton  Supper was at 5.00pm, a children's social  at 6-7.30pm & a slide show at 8-9.30pm.  Milk deliveries were arranged at 1/- a pint.

At the meeting the chairman welcomes Mr Payne, NWR secretary gave a talk on the part DA plays and welcomed Lakeland to the region.  The chairman thanked NLDA for their help and support  and the committee for their hard work over the past 2 years for making Lakeland DA.

So that is how it all began & your continued support and help stearding meets is still vital today as it was in 1969.

Lakeland DA now look forward to their 40 years in April 2009
